You cannot just jump in and start painting without priming it first. Apply a layer of primer to the desk after sanding it and leave it for a day to let it dry properly. Once the primer dries, you can go ahead with the painting. For painting you would need a paint brush and roller. Apply the paint properly and since the desks require a second coat of painting, let the first coat of paint dry. Once it dries, add the second coat of paint. To give the desk a bright and polished look, apply varnish after painting it. Once you are done with this process, your desk will be ready to use. Though painting an old office desk does not call for skill, if you are not sure about your expertise, get a professional for the job.
Follow the instructions to be able to carry out the job of painting easily. Before you actually start painting, sand the desk and wipe it down to get rid of dirt and grease. Use warm soap and water to wash the desk for the best results. While painting the office desk, remember to remove all the hardware like the hinges, knobs and drawers. These should be painted later on and not at the same time as the desk. Both the desk and the hardware should be sanded adequately to make their surface smooth and fit for painting. Bumpy surfaces would not enable the smooth painting of the desk. Priming the desk would be your next step once you are done with the cleaning and sanding of the desk.
The quality of the office desk should be of good quality and preferably ergonomic. Often office owners buy cheap quality furniture getting tempted by their low price. But if you want productive output from your employees, you should also make sure that you are providing them with top quality furniture. You do not have to spend a fortune buying the desks. Instead, look for the average priced ones which ensure comfort to those who sit and work at them. If your employee feels happy and comfy while working, you can be sure of the increased level of productivity.
Functional or Furniture? Is your home office desk fundamentally a piece of furniture or should its functionality be your main priority? Again, this may come down to whether you are running a genuine company or if the desk is simply for home use. There is no need for a functional item not to take the form of a beautiful piece of home furniture. In fact, many professional business desks would look perfectly at home in both a business and domestic environment. However, desks hand-made from solid oak, cherry or mahogany tend to be expensive, and more suited to the type of corporate finance that most individuals would find beyond them. The occasional domestic user would be reluctant to spend too much hard-earned income on a home office desk, and there are many good-looking desks available at economical prices that would look superb in a home office.
