The office desk is one of the vital items of an office since an office cannot easily function without a desk. A desk imparts the functional and professional look to the office. But with the rising prices of furnishing items it is not always possible to purchase new desks when the old ones wear out. A spacious, good looking desk can cost you a fortune. But at the same time you cannot work without a proper desk in your office. To solve the problem, try painting! Yes, you read it right! If you are desperately in need of a desk but cannot afford to buy a new one, just paint your old desk to give it a new and fresh look.
Before you go out looking for your home office furniture you must first list the things you actually need and set a budget so that you do not make any compulsive purchases. Your list of things should also include tasks that you feel you will be accomplishing at your workstation. The list must also include the items that will be used or placed on the desks. You may also need filing cabinets for your desk so that you can keep your important documents accessible but also stored safely away. You may have frequent visitors at your home. In such cases you will want your home office desk to be aesthetically pleasing and appealing as well.
A well spaced office desk would allow you to keep the necessary items like the computer, documents, pen stand and mug on it without cluttering the space. It should have enough drawers and insets to be able to hold files and important documents. In this way things can be kept in an organized fashion. Again drawers should be of two types. The first type you can keep the files, while the second type should be shallow that would help to hold pens, pencils, wallet, etc.
Follow the instructions to be able to carry out the job of painting easily. Before you actually start painting, sand the desk and wipe it down to get rid of dirt and grease. Use warm soap and water to wash the desk for the best results. While painting the office desk, remember to remove all the hardware like the hinges, knobs and drawers. These should be painted later on and not at the same time as the desk. Both the desk and the hardware should be sanded adequately to make their surface smooth and fit for painting. Bumpy surfaces would not enable the smooth painting of the desk. Priming the desk would be your next step once you are done with the cleaning and sanding of the desk.
